Teen Mental Wellness Day

Today, March 2nd, is World Teen Mental Wellness Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the mental health challenges faced by teenagers around the globe.

ASPIRE celebrates the resilience and strength of teens who are facing a unique set of challenges. We are shining a light on the incredible work of the PANS/PANDAS patient advocates who work tirelessly on their recovery from this often misunderstood disorder. Their stories are a testament to the power of community, support, and hope.

Let’s support teen mental health worldwide. By fostering empathy, understanding, and empowerment, we create a world where every teen, including those with PANS/PANDAS, feels valued, heard, and supported on their mental wellness journey.

The rising rate of adolescents with mental health issues is alarming. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that half of all mental health issues start by the time a child reaches the age of 14. Physicians must recognize the root cause of these mental health issues. Many adolescents with these conditions suffer from neuroimmune conditions, like PANS/PANDAS, as a result of infection-triggered neural inflammation. Doctors and therapists must first work on ruling out/ruling in medical issues before making psychiatric diagnoses, as total recovery is possible with the proper diagnosis and treatment. We need everyone’s help in educating the world on these disorders so we can help close the gap between the onset of symptoms and the start of appropriate treatment and support.
