ADHD-like symptoms & PANS PANDAS
Decline in Academic Performance is a symptom category included in the PANS PANDAS Diagnostic Criteria. ADHD-like symptoms are included in this category.
New onset of ADHD-like behaviors along with other PANS symptoms is one of the possible signs someone may have PANS PANDAS.
Some of the signs of ADHD
- Impulsivity
- Motoric hyperactivity
- Inattention
- Fidgety
- Inability to be still
- Inability to complete simple tasks
- Decline in learning abilities
In order for these symptoms to be counted as a PANS symptom, they must be newly onset along with other newly onset PANS symptoms versus a previously diagnosed as a single-issue, long-standing behavior issue. Newly onset cases describe patients who could attend to one task for long periods of time but now are distracted easily, have poor attention skills, can’t sit in their seat at school, interrupt conversations, and/or perform simple daily living and school tasks. Anxiety often increases as the ability to focus decreases.
