The Comprehensive Physicians' Guide to the Management of PANS and PANDAS: An Evidence-Based Approach to Diagnosis, Testing, and Effective TreatmentAn evidence-based guide for doctors diagnosing, testing, and treating children with PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Strep infections).

In the early 1990s, a group of researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health began collecting data on children who had developed neuropsychiatric disorders (OCD and tics) following infections. They found evidence that antineuronal antibodies had developed in some of these children which attacked the basal ganglia region of the brain. MRI and PET scans in these children demonstrated inflammatory changes in the basal ganglia as well. In 1997, the researchers published the first article to describe this syndrome that they named PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Strep infections).

I wish my doctors had read this book 9 years ago when my daughter was in an eating disorder unit for 4 months. They wonder why? she was treatment resistant to CBT, and many of the medications that they gave her.
She is still ill today at 22. Many autoimmune disorders and brain fog, body pain, etc…
The list goes on. Our medical system in Canada FUCKED UP, and no-one is stepping up to take responsibility. Even Evelyn Stewart “Top OCD researcher/doctor in Canada, doesn’t return my call to answer questions about the 4 week “Camp Oh See Dee” that my daughter was forced to participate in.
I would like the results from that camp, including the Brain MRI that she had done as part of the (so called research). If this was research, why isn’t there someone following up on my daughter all these years later????? Do they Care??? Presumably NOT. This has torn our whole family apart and we are still cleaning up the mess….not to mention paying the bills of being in the health care system for far too long, both pysically and mentally. BCCH should be ashamed of themselves. 2015 diagnosed with Pans-2024 still unwell.
