Call to Action

Current Call to Action as of Dec 16, 2025
New Jersey Families Needed
A group of advocates is seeking a New Jersey family who has recently been denied health insurance coverage for PANS/PANDAS treatment and is currently fighting for coverage.
This request supports the passage of Assembly Bill A5325 and Senate Bill S4444, which would require health insurance coverage for the treatment of PANS and PANDAS in New Jersey.
Important note: We would prefer a family’s coverage be through a health insurer (not a self-insured employer plan, which falls under the purview of the federal government, not states).
Why we’re asking

A supportive New Jersey State Senator is seeking a parent willing to share their story in a short video for use in a press conference or media release. The goal is to help move S4444 onto the Senate Commerce Committee agenda.

If you are open to sharing your experience, please email ajohnson@policyconsult.com to discuss specifics!

Update A5325  & S4444

These bills have been tabled for 2025. The great news is that Senator Lagana is going to co-sponsor the bill when reintroduced in January and post it to the agenda of the first meeting of the Senate Commerce Committee in the new year! Amazing together what we have accomplished

New Jersey Assembly Bill (A5325)  & Senate Bill (S4444) would require hospital and medical service corporations, health service corporation contracts, individual and group health insurance policies, individual health benefit plans, small employer health benefit plans, HMOs, the State Health Benefits Commission, and the School Employees Health Benefits Commission to cover expenses incurred in the diagnosis and treatment of PANDAS and PANS that is prescribed or ordered by the treating physician.  Coverage must include, but is not limited to, antibiotics, medication and behavioral therapies to manage neuropsychiatric symptoms, immunomodulating medicines, plasma exchange, and intravenous immunoglobulin therapy.

The Assembly has referred A5325 to the Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee. A companion bill in the New Jersey Senate (S4444) also has been referred to the Senate Commerce Committee.
