Children’s Post Infectious Autoimmune Encephalopathy (CPAE) Center of Excellence
CPAE was founded in 2017 in collaboration with The University of Arizona and Banner-University Medicine in collaboration with the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). CPAE was the first center in the U.S. to implement an integrated model of basic science and clinical research, clinical care and teaching to address a spectrum of neuropsychiatric disorders that are often misdiagnosed, underdiagnosed or undiagnosed in children.
CPAE, which now has two clinics, accepts patients from the U.S. and other countries. The clinical team collaborates with local pediatricians to manage cases, providing a valuable learning opportunity for providers who might be far from the Arizona clinics.
